Things to Know before Choosing Blogger or Wordpress as your Blogging Platform

I really would not want to decide for you but try to explain what you would need if you are to use any of the applications. I would start with explaining factors that may affect both blogging platforms.

WordPress

I am so used to WordPress to the extent I learned about creating WordPress themes which I would be sharing later on in the course of managing this blog. WordPress is a very great platform if you ask me as it can be tailored to your specific need. It has lot of themes to choose from making it a one stop for bloggers. With this platform, you are in full control of everything, from the hosting to the design.

When I started using WordPress, and my blog grew in traffic, I hit the rock bottom, while, my blog was young, even though I had lot of traffic, I never had enough money to pay for an expensive host. My host then, advice me that I needed a dedicated server or a WordPress host to handle the amount of traffic I was receiving, this was about N48, 000 yearly for me to pay, and I did not have the funds, so my blog was suspended, during that period, I lost valuable readers while putting funds together and before I could start again, my blog traffic had already wain down.

This is the one problem faced with blogs using WordPress with a paid host, you need money to maintain your blog, as WordPress easily consume server resources as the traffic grows, also you to invest huge amount in security plugin and CDN (cache systems) which are quite expensive and need routine maintenance.

Blogger

With blogger, it absolutely free to operate, for example, Linda Ikeji do not pay for anything with the huge traffic she is receiving. Even the security of her blog is handle by blogger, it is a stress free way to blog compared to WordPress. Also, you do not need to worry about up-time and downtime issue as your blog is hosted with one of the best company you can think of in the world (Google).

The only challenge with blogger is that your blog can be deleted without prior notice from Google. This can happen if you breach their terms and condition or if you blog is reported by someone whom seem to have you in mind, maybe post theft.

For me, I choose blogger because it is cheaper to start with and I do not have to worry about traffic related issue or security and it all FREE. Also, my articles are original and authentic so I worry less about post theft, I mere visit any site to draw concept when I write.
